Goodbye Off-Peak: All NetOne Data Bundles Now Usable Anytime

State-owned mobile network operator NetOne has officially removed the peak and off-peak browsing restrictions across all its data bundles.

Following significant customer frustration and direct intervention by the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ), subscribers can now enjoy seamless internet connectivity without time limits.

The Off-Peak Problem

The controversy began in November 2025, when NetOne reintroduced off-peak restrictions on its Mo’Gigs bundles. Under this system, large portions of a customer's data were locked into an off-peak window spanning from 1 AM to 7 AM hours when most people are asleep.

For example, a subscriber purchasing a $30 monthly bundle for 30GB was restricted to 24GB of daytime use, with the remaining 6GB only accessible during the early morning hours. Customers were furious, feeling they were paying for data they could not realistically consume.

CCZ Steps In

The CCZ took action after receiving numerous complaints regarding the issue. In January 2026, CCZ Chief Executive Officer Rosemary Mpofu sent formal letters addressing the network operator.

Mpofu highlighted that charging consumers for data that is "known in advance to be largely unusable by the average subscriber" was unfair, lacked transparency, and compromised value for money. NetOne executives met with the CCZ by January 29, acknowledging the complaints and stating that changes were in motion.

A Complete Reversal

Last month, NetOne attempted a compromise by shifting the off-peak hours to a slightly more accessible window of 10 PM to 5 AM. The company stated this was an effort to continuously refine its products. However, the mobile operator soon realized the changes were insufficient.

On Tuesday, March 17, NetOne issued a public notice confirming the complete abolition of the off-peak system.

What This Means for Subscribers

The move is aimed at simplifying the mobile data experience and offering greater convenience.

  • Unified Data: All data bundles are now unified, completely eliminating time-based browsing restrictions.
  • Consistent Usage: Customers gain a better user experience by being able to use their data whenever they want, leading to improved value perception.
  • Seamless Connectivity: To convert airtime into any desired bundle, customers can simply dial *379#.
  • Support Access: For further assistance regarding the updates, subscribers can dial 123 directly from their NetOne lines.
